Arlington Bond Election and Early Voting ...

Early voting began Monday October 20th through October 31st.

The City of Arlington has 4 bond propositions on the ballot - a 5 year, $236 million program for roads, parks, fire facilities, and libraries - and the key thing to remember is that IT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR TAXES. The city does a great job of managing its debt capacity so that a tax increase will never an option. (Yes, the ballot does say: "and the levying of a tax in payment therein. Which translates into the short story,... meaning that the current tax rate will remain the same, i.e. the City means no tax rate increase... contact me for further explanation).

A 19 member citizen's committee met every week from March through May to consider the proposed projects that amounted to over $400 million and ultimately reduced the project list down to the $236 million. So we appreciate their efforts and time, thank you.

For your information I have posted the link to the City of Arlington voters guide that list all the projects. They are all greatly needed and will only make Arlington better. Feel free to share this with your friends and encourage them to vote YES.

The final day to vote is Tuesday November 4th but early voting is more convenient to all.

The money for the new Central Downtown Library / City Council Chambers / Plaza will come from Certificates of Obligations, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation (Natural Gas Money). The Arlington Library Foundation will be raising money in the community for interior furnishings.

Public Forum to be held 10/21/14 on AISD schools Corey, Moore, and Wood....

When: Tuesday October 21st starting at 5:30 pm.

Where: Mary Moore Elementary 5500 Park Springs Blvd, Arlington, TX 76017.

Details:

In September, a committee of parents and principals was formed to study all issues related to re-evaluating the boundaries for Corey, Moore, and Wood Elementary Schools.

The committee has researched the available options for a proposed boundary change to prepare for the Dual Language / Fine Arts Academy that will start at Corey Elementary in the fall of 2015. Templeton Demographics, the district's demographer, provided thee committee with draft boundaries as a starting point. The committee considered relevant data, including the following: student safety,; educational needs; future growth and school size; enrollment balance; feeder patterns for the elementary; junior high and high schools; and a desire to keep change to a minimum.

The proposal was presented to the Borad of Trustees at the Board's regular meeting Thursday, October 16, 2014. The proposal is detailed on the map below. The Board of Trustees is scheduled to take a final vote on the proposed boundary change November 6, 2014.

All parents and interested citizens are invited to attend the public forum. The majority of the forum's agenda will be allocated for audience questions and comments. Committee members and AISD administrators will also be present to hear your comments.

Note: The new Moore boundary adds the area NW of Andalusa Trail to I-20 and Hwy 287 as indicated in red lines. Wood is in Yellow with the addition being West of Kelly Perkins /Kelly Elliott to Green Oaks.
