Fight your property taxes in Arlington, TX

  • When: Fri, Apr 21, 6:30 PM
  • Where: 815 West Park Row Drive, Arlington, Texas 76013
  • Citizens for a Better Arlington has lined up an impressive group of speakers to talk about property taxes and show you how to fight them.

    Details:
You just got your blue property tax valuations in the mail, and you are blown away with how high the value of your home jumped. You know this means a much higher property tax bill, and you want to fight it but don't know the ins and outs. We want to help.

Citizens for a Better Arlington welcomes Dallas Morning News columnist Dave Lieber and a panel of experts to walk you through exactly what you need to do to fight the man. Dave Lieber has written many articles over the years helping people through this process, and now you will get to hear from him first hand. We will also get to hear about his new book that teaches the average person how to deal with bad actors in the activist arena. There will also be plenty of time for a Q&A, which will include Ron Wright and other people who fight property bills professionally.

Seating is first come, first served. Drinks will be available for purchase, and donations are welcome. If you want to get a ticket at EventBrite, it helps:

Arlington Election will be May 6th...with 2 Propositions on the ballot....

Proposition 1.... is a bond package to build a senior citizen recreation center, for those over 50. ...At the cost of $45m

For more info: FAQs.pdf

Comments: Arlington's population is about 365,500 and about 12% of the population is over 50+, I'm not sure how many of those folks will work out consistently. My point being is why not just build another general use facility open to all citizens, the rec centers spread throughout the city seems a great idea, as long as all can use them.

Recommendation: Vote No.

Proposition 2... is to approve civil service for the firefighters.

For more info: FAQs.pdf

Comments: I do not see the advantage to the citizens of Arlington to have a union for the firemen. And the current standards are actually higher right now than it will be with the union. The more I research the less I like this proposition. Arlington will have to hire 3 administrators to oversee to the tune of $350k per year, out of the general fund. The city actually has higher standards than civil service including drug testing and being able to dismiss a firefighter when warranted.

Recommendation: Vote No.

FYI: Early voting is April 24th through May 2nd. Actual election day is Saturday May 6th.
